WRSA is weer betrokke by ʼn seminaar oor intensiewe teling by WILD & JAG se WILD EXPO in Augustus in Pretoria.

Voorwaar ʼn dinamiese bedryf!

DYNAMICS IN THE GAME INDUSTRY

The impressive growth in the production and marketing of game in South Africa is reflected in the record turnover at game auctions of more than R960 million in 2012. While a large proportion of the turnover relates to scarce species, which in the end is in the interest of the trophy hunter, the ordinary hunter in South Africa can also rest assured that the continuous production of ‘common game’ will ensure hunting opportunities in future.

Already the 2013 marketing season is well on its way, and as far as production is concerned, the progressive game ranchers are being exposed to numerous opportunities to enhance their knowledge. The national organisation Wildlife Ranching SA (WRSA) with various groupings of its members is setting the pace with organising seminars, workshops and congresses, where problems, obstacles and opportunities in the industry are professionally addressed.

A Northern Free State WRSA Business Chamber has already been established at a farmers’ day at Kroonstad in February, where knowledgeable speakers, such as Dr Gert Dry and Wiaan van der Linde addressed the attendees. Stud Game Breeders presented a workshop on ‘Genetic Improvement in the Stud Game Industry’ led by Dr Paul Labout of Wildlife Stud Services, with a panel of experts in the field of genetic improvement, biotechnology and utilizing DNA testing.

At the WRSA congress at Modimolle in April there will also be presentations by experts, while Trophy Breeders is offering a seminar on roan and sable antelope in Pretoria in May. WRSA is also involved in a seminar on intensive breeding at the WILD EXPO, presented by GAME & HUNT in Pretoria in August.

A dynamic industry, indeed!

From the Scriptures

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch – Isaiah 62:1.
